It’s currently estimated that (out of the nearly 50% of Americans who make New Year’s resolutions) only 25% stay committed after 30 days. Don’t get discouraged though – you can incorporate better, healthier habits into your routine with time, effort, and dedication. For example, if one of your goals in 2025 is to floss more, these four tips will make that goal easier.

1. Find Your “Why”

Whether the goal is to exercise more, to eat less sugar, or to develop a new skill, the people who are successful seem to have something in common: they have a “why” that motivates them. If you want to incorporate flossing into your daily routine, then find something that will motivate you – even when you have to wake up early or are extremely tired after a long day. Maybe it’s the fact that gum disease is something that roughly 50% of Americans struggle with and, if left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss!

2. Get New Floss

If you are still using a long strand of floss, that might be the reason you’re having trouble incorporating this essential oral hygiene habit into your routine. Nowadays, there are all kinds of tools – from pre-threaded floss to water flossers – which help make cleaning between your teeth and along your gumline easier. If you are overwhelmed by all of the options out there, you can always ask your dental team for their recommendations at your next checkup too!

3. Create a Cue

One of the best ways to ensure you don’t forget to floss is to create a cue. For example, if you plan to floss each morning while you’re getting ready, then putting a note on your bathroom mirror will help you remember. If you prefer to incorporate this habit into your nighttime routine, then you can set a reminder on your phone so you don’t get into bed before doing so.

4. Keep a Small Pack of Floss with You

Of course, not every day looks exactly the same. Some mornings, you might sleep through your alarm. Some weekends, you might be out of town. That’s where an on-the-go dental hygiene kit comes in. With a little pouch filled with everything you need, including floss, you can maintain your progress no matter where you are!
